The small town of Valleby is celebrating its 500th birthday in a few days' time! However, the celebrations may be interrupted by a thief whose signature is… a scorpion. Can the young detectives Jerry and Maya track him down and save the day?

The pair of detectives have another tough nut to crack. Someone apparently wants to make sure that the free candy event that everyone in Valleby is waiting for doesn't happen. A telescope disappears from the Academy of Science, the fireworks prepared for the show go off too early, and a live scorpion vanishes from a jewellery shop. Maya and Jerry have a number of suspects. They don't even rule out the priest as a possible culprit – after all, some evidence was found in the church tower. A policeman and a retired thief, Lillie, who lives in a residential care home, support them in their investigation.
