Dìdi, a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy, is going to high school in September. A life-changing summer begins – filled with skateboarding, self-discovery, and first romantic letdowns.
His name is Chris Wang but everybody calls him Dìdi. He lives in California. At home, he speaks Taiwanese with his mum and grandma. He has a group of school friends, roams skate parks with a gang of older teens, and goes on a date with Madia, but he still feels lonely and not taken seriously. The film follows the teenage skateboarder and film amateur’s journey as he tries to answer the crucial questions: Who am I? What do I need? It is also a nostalgic throwback to the time of flip phones, the early days of social media, and amateur YouTube videos.
