New Horizons: A New Kind of Wilderness
Ukjent landskap
Norway 2024 / 84’
subtitles
For years, a family with four children have lived a self-sufficient life on a Norwegian farm, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and in harmony with nature. When tragedy strikes them unexpectedly, their peaceful world is turned upside down.
The family members are compassionate not only towards one another but also to their animals, their house, and the nature around them. Their private photos and homemade videos used in the film accentuate the psychological aspect of the passing of time. A new kind of wilderness is asking yourself how to guide your life and your family in times of sorrow. The film emphasises the need to accept change and find a new way of living. When you decide to live outside of society, you must be ready for the day you get expelled from Eden. The film won the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at Sundance. In Poland, it premiered at this year’s Millennium Docs Against Gravity.
