Imagine a story like that of Romeo and Juliet, but in the world of paintings. While Ramo should stick with the other Painted Ones, he falls in love with the lower-class, unfinished Claire. Can their love stand the test?
In a world that is actually a huge painting canvas, the characters fall into three groups. The Painted Ones live in luxury: they wear beautiful clothes and feast constantly. They feel superior to the Unfinished Ones and the Doodles, leaving them with no access to wealth. This can all change when Ramo, with the help of his friends Lola and Plume, sets out to find an artist to complete Claire's portrait. In his quest to find the artist, he will visit the artist's workshop, find himself on the battlefield, and experience a myriad of adventures. His journey beyond the frame of the painting is incredibly pleasing to the eye: it’s easy to forget that we are not in an art gallery but watching a film!
Did you know that…
the director Jean-François Laguionie designed the appearance of each character by drawing in the style of famous artists? He was inspired by Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and Pablo Picasso, among others.
