Sonia
Siv sover vilse
Sweden 2016 / 79’
Sonia is having a sleepover at her friend's house. It won't be an ordinary visit, as the house has plenty of secrets. Instead of sleeping, Sonia is in for an adventure, overcoming her own fears and… bickering badgers in red wellies.
7-year-old Sonia is spending the night away from home for the first time. At the home of Celestine, her new friend, things are quite different and a little magical. The food is exotic (and a bit funny, for example, the groats are called “couscous”), the colours are strangely pink, and the corridors are huge! There are lots of doors, and behind each door, something peculiar and somewhat unsettling lurks. It's going to be a long night, and Sonia won't fall asleep quickly. But with the help of a pair of very talkative badgers, the night will be filled with unforgettable adventures. The film is an adaptation of a book by Pia Lindenbaum, who also created the adventures of Mini Mia.
In the eyes of the festival programmer…
I remembered the buzz after the premiere at Berlinale, where Sonia opened the Generation section – word got around that it was an exceptional film. I love its atmosphere, but I also appreciate Sonia as a great main character.
