The film is based on the director’s own experiences? His family moved to Finland to escape the war between Iran and Iraq
Thirteen-year-old Ramin and his Iranian family are living in a refugee centre in Finland. As he begins to look forward to the upcoming holidays, the family receives the news that their asylum application has been rejected.
Ramin’s mother taught him to appreciate the beauty of simple things. Each day, he wakes up to her tender affection. Meanwhile, his dad is an unrelenting optimist, striving to cheer everyone up in a moment of crisis. The Iranian family, now residing in Finland, is united by daily rituals. But soon, the warmth, understanding, and humour that fill their daily life will be disrupted by the uncertainty of the future – the threat of sudden deportation. Meanwhile, Ramin is growing up – he explores his own boundaries, enjoys true friendship and his first party, and even falls in love. Each moment is priceless. Any Day Now is a tender portrayal of a strong family bond that helps us feel rooted and safe wherever we live.
The screening will be accompanied by a short film Under the Skin, dir. Emma Branderhorst, 19'
