This is Julian’s first summer holiday with his grandmother – he expects a quiet summer, but instead he is facing a journey into the realm of Caribbean tales, mermaids, and an imagination strong enough to change reality.

Spending the holidays with his grandmother, who comes from the Dominican Republic, gives Julian the chance to discover family history, Caribbean traditions, and a world he had never known before. Each new day brings fresh experiences and allows him to see his own family from a completely different perspective. Julian’s greatest dream – as he is obsessed with sea creatures and the ocean – is to take part in the upcoming Mermaid Parade. The festival offers him a chance to strengthen family bonds, express himself and, above all, find the answer to the question: who does he really want to be?

A warm story about discovering one’s roots, celebrating creativity and having the courage to be oneself, Julián is the latest production from the Oscar-nominated studio Cartoon Saloon. The film premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
