Lampie is an adaptation of the debut novel by Annet Schaap, a renowned Dutch illustrator and writer. It has been awarded, among others, the prestigious Golden Pencil, a Dutch award for authors of children's literature, and has been translated into sixteen languages.
Lampie and Edward – the lighthouse keeper's daughter and a special boy – face adversity as they try to find their place in the world and repair lost family ties. Will they manage to overcome fear and prejudice?
Lampie is a brave eleven-year-old girl. Each day, she lights the warning light in her father's lighthouse to warn ships of the rocks. One night, when the fire is not lit, an accident occurs and the girl ends up at the Admiral's Black House, where a monster is supposed to live. There, Lampie meets the mysterious Edward, a boy with a fishtail who is ashamed of his secret and longs for acceptance. Although initially distrustful, Edward befriends Lampie, and their bond leads to extraordinary adventures in the world of mysterious aquatic creatures and dangerous pirates. Lampie is a moving portrayal of accepting diversity and a suspenseful story about an extraordinary friendship that will survive many storms.
