Did you know...
Mary Anning really did exist and was one of the first female palaeontologists in history? When she was only twelve years old, she discovered the skeleton of an ichthyosaur, a giant prehistoric marine reptile. It was her first important find.
Can a twelve-year-old girl change the course of history? Mary follows the trail of prehistoric footprints hidden in the rocks. In addition to fossils, she will find friendships and adventures, and give rise to a new science – palaeontology.
Mary Anning is a clever and courageous teenager living in 19th-century England. Following the sudden death of her father, with whom she shared a passion for collecting fossils, she is left with her mother, brother, and a mysterious drawing left by her father. Mary believes that it might be the key to a discovery that would allow the family to pay their bills and stay in their beloved home. On the English coast, she encounters not only unexpected discoveries, but also new friendships and adventures. The young scientist must face adults who believe that girls belong at home – rather than among books, rocks, and scientific breakthroughs. Mary Anning is a tale about the power of dreams, determination, and the fact that the fight for equal rights for women has begun a long time ago.
