Buster Keaton, the king of slapstick, plays a cinema projectionist who dreams of becoming a detective. When he gets wrongly accused of theft, he will get his chance to launch a real investigation.

Buster Keaton was an innovative film director of his time. Here, he portrays a film projectionist who falls asleep and wakes up in the film he is projecting. In his free time, the protagonist reads a book on how to become a detective. He’s in love with a girl and even though he’s broke, he showers her with little gifts. Unfortunately, another man has an eye for the same girl and starts competing for her favour. When the girl’s father’s watch gets lost, the projectionist’s rival accuses him of stealing it. The protagonist turns into a Sherlock Holmes – he runs his own investigation, filled with hilarious gags and mishaps. Will he prove that he’s innocent, catch the actual thief, and win the heart of his beloved?
