The Crossing

Flukten over grensen

dir. Johanne Helgeland
Norway 2020 / 96’

Norway, World War II. Greta and Otto’s parents are arrested and the siblings discover why two Jewish children are hiding in their house. They decide to help Daniel and Sarah get to neutral Sweden.

It’s December 1942, World War II. In Norway, like in many other European countries, Jews are persecuted. One night, the Nazis arrest Greta and Otto’s parents. The siblings discover that two Jewish kids, Daniel and Sarah, are hiding in their house. Greta, a fan of musketeer stories, immediately decides to help the two children, who want to get to neutral Sweden. Otto is reluctant to go, though. He blames Daniel and Sarah for the arrest of his parents. The children are setting out across snow-covered Norway. Every person they meet might be an enemy. This is a gripping story about friendship that goes beyond national borders, about the children’s selfless help, loyalty, and great courage.
