A year in the life of a family where the parents decide to separate. Anna and Magnus have three children and a dog – they have split up, but still spend time together, piecing together their new reality.

Hlynur Pálmason's new film debuted in the Première section of the Cannes Film Festival. Intimate yet sweeping, tender and mocking, slapstick and dreamlike, melancholic and sensitive to the slightest manifestations of beauty – The Love That Remains is a surprising hybrid of emotions and styles. In telling the story of the breakdown of a family, Pálmason brilliantly depicts the limbo in which the characters find themselves: a married couple and their three children. Magnus is a sailor on fishing boats; Anna is an artist dreaming of a career breakthrough. They both try to piece their broken family back together, but it is Magnus who feels like he has been thrown overboard. This poignant, sad, and yet irresistibly funny film is one of the greatest cinematic tributes to love ever created.
