The Painting

Three conflicted groups – the Toupins (Allduns), who are entirely painted, the Pafinis (Halfies), who lack a few colours and the Reufs (Sketchies), who are only sketches, all live in a mysteriously unfinished painting. Ramo, from the privileged class, falls in love with the lower-class, unfinished Claire. Will the journey, beyond the boundaries of the painting, to find the painter and persuade him to complete the portrait of his beloved succeed?

In a large-scale, unfinished painting, the characters are divided into three groups. The “entirely painted” live in luxury: they wear fine clothes and enjoy frequent feasts. They feel superior to the Halfies and the Sketchies, giving them no access to wealth. Everything could change once Ramo, with the help of his friends Lola and Plume, sets off to find the artist and convince them to complete Claire’s portrait. Along the way, he’ll experience a host of adventures, visit the artist’s studio, and even wind up on a battlefield. His journey beyond the frame is also an adventure for the viewer, who may mistake this film for a visit to an art gallery!
