Did you know...
the world premiere of The Winners took place at this year's Berlin International Film Festival? The film competed for the Crystal Bear award in the Generation Kplus section.
Eleven-year-old Mona was recently forced to move from Syria to Berlin. At her new school, she tries to do what she used to do in her old neighbourhood – play football. Will she be accepted by the team?
Life in a foreign country is not so easy. You don't know the language; your classmates treat you with distance. On top of all that, you miss your homeland, which you had to leave because of the war. Still, there's a silver lining. Mona's teacher, Mr Che, encourages her to join a girls' football team that is preparing for the Berlin championships. Sport reminds her of the good times spent with her friends and aunt Helin. Unfortunately, not all the players are ready to welcome Mona into the team. In order to win, they must understand that they are all playing for the same team.
