Mitsuha and Taki are two high school students who are experiencing something very strange. Even though they don’t know each other, they start swapping bodies at night. A special bond grows between them, which allows Taki to save Mitsuha from danger.

Mitsuha is a shy teenager who lives in rural Japan. She considers her life boring – she lives with her younger sister and her grandma and helps them at a shrine. She dreams of moving to the capital. One day, she wakes up from a dream in which she was a boy from a big city. A similar thing happens to Taki, a high school student from Tokyo, who works part-time at a restaurant: the boy dreams that he is a girl. The two soon realise that they swap bodies when they are sleeping. They start communicating using Mitsuha’s notebook and Taki’s phone. They make use of this unusual situation and help each other out in their daily problems. They are about to face a bigger problem, though. Will they be able to join their forces to save Mitsuha’s town from a comet?
