Ten days filled with festival screenings, meetings and countless emotions have come to an end. The on-site part of the 13th International Film Festival TAURON Young Horizons is now over, but there are still more moments to come, filled with thoughtful cinema for young audiences. Until October 25, we invite you online to discover selected films from this year’s programme. Check out which titles are worth watching!

Adaptation of the bestselling comic series – Mira

The arrival of a cool new girl in the class turns twelve-year-old Mira’s world upside down. Her friendship with Naja and Louis is put to the test, and all the girls suddenly seem interested only in talking about love. Mira is an adaptation of the bestselling comic series by Sabine Lemire, with illustrations by Rasmus Bregnhøi. The film reminds us that everyone grows up at their own pace, and that the most important thing is to listen to your own heart. The film is recommended by Empowering Children Foundation.

Humorous and adventurous tale  – Dudley & the Invasion of the Space Slugs

Dudley is a young frog who is always on the lookout for a chance to be a hero. However, his courage is put to the test when alien snails attack Earth. Will Dudley manage to save his pond and its inhabitants before it’s too late? It’s a humorous and adventurous tale about the power of friendship and the courage to believe in yourself, even when others doubt you. It is also a reminder of how important it is to care for our planet and its precious, yet limited, resources.

Personal film diary – Go Hungary

Go Hungary is a personal film diary showing life in Hungary under Viktor Orbán’s rule, from the perspective of teenage twins Nati and Dorka. Anger, frustration, and the fatigue caused by the country’s political situation become the starting point for a story about the girls’ everyday lives. Together with the girls, we travel through places marked by omnipresent propaganda and look for safe spaces where freedom can be felt. Recommended by SEXEDPL.

Cult anime – 5 Centimeters Per Second

Five centimetres per second – that’s how fast cherry-blossom petals fall to the ground. Makoto Shinkai’s cult anime is one of the most beautiful cinematic love stories ever told. Divided into three chapters, it follows Takaki as he grows up and experiences first love, heartbreak, and longing. Following the release of 5 Centimetres per Second, Makoto Shinkai was rightly hailed as the successor to Hayao Miyazaki. Both filmmakers see extraordinary beauty in simple, seemingly insignificant things: small gestures, fading trees, or the sound of the wind on a snowy night. This distinctive sensitivity, combined with a breathtaking, fairy-tale-like animation style, has become Shinkai’s hallmark.

But when her little brother mysteriously disappears, she has to face the wild and trust her instincts. One thing is certain: this extraordinary adventure will test her courage, wit, and trust in herself and the natural world around her.

A story about sisterly trust Twinkle Twinkle Little Elephant

Just before her grandmother’s birthday party, Nim realises she’s left her beloved elephant ears behind at summer camp. So, together with her younger sister Ollie, she sets off through the forest to get them back. It soon becomes clear, however, that it’s easy to get lost in the forest, and their journey turns into an adventure full of surprises. Amidst the forest paths and unexpected twists and turns, they begin to discover that you don’t always have to lead to reach your destination – sometimes it is enough to trust one another and keep going together.
