The Crossing

Kyona and Adriel have been forced to flee their home village. Together, the siblings try to find shelter in a safe place. For them, this is a journey not only through an uncharted territory but also into themselves.

Made using a time-consuming and therefore unusual and rare technique (slow-drying oil paints on glass sheets), this animation is not set in a specific place or time. We experience the story from the perspective of the now older Kyona, who documented the entire journey in a sketchbook. In her tale, a child's imagination blends with hazy memories and real characters blend with fantastic ones. The independent life on the road, where you end up in a rich people's house one day, only to later meet other refugees and taste life in a circus town, cannot be so easily recreated. But one thing is for sure – no matter where you go, staying together pays off.
