When twelve-year-old Steven’s father rushes out of the railway station, pursued by FBI agents, the boy begins to suspect that his dad might be a wanted Nazi spy. Will he manage to uncover the truth with the help of Miriam, a fourteen-year-old Jewish refugee?
New York, 1941. Abandoned at the railway station and left on his own, Steven resolves to find his father at all costs and learn the truth about him. This proves difficult, however, as his only clue is a suitcase left for him, containing a mysterious key. Fortunately, he is soon joined by Miriam, a resourceful fan of detective novels. Their investigation together will lead them to uncover a conspiracy far greater than they could have imagined…
The film Children of Liberty is a skilful blend of an exciting detective adventure and a moving lesson in history, set against the backdrop of New York. It is a universal story of friendship and courage between two young people, forced by war to enter the adult world too soon. The animated film had its premiere in Annecy at the world’s most important animation film festival.
