A father wants to give his two daughters the Christmas of their dreams. When his efforts prove insufficient, however, sixteen-year-old Melissa has to take his place at work, while ten-year-old Ronja escapes into a world of fantasy. Will the sisters experience the magic of Christmas despite their difficulties?

It is December, and Christmas is approaching. Ronja and Melissa live in an ordinary block of flats, although they secretly dream of a cosy cottage deep in the forest – a place where a fire crackles merrily in the fireplace and wolves howl beneath a starry sky. Their father is once again struggling with unemployment until he finally finds a job selling Christmas trees. The empty fridge is briefly filled with food, and the flat is filled with the scent of spruce. When their father once again loses the battle with his weaknesses, the sisters have to start fending for themselves…

Stargate: A Christmas Story is a moving story about the power of imagination, the kindness of strangers, and the strength of sisterly love. It reminds us that even in a life full of difficult challenges, we can find plenty of beauty and magic.

Did you know that…
…in the old calendar, St Lucia’s Day, celebrated on 13 December and shown in the film, fell on the winter solstice, the longest night of the year? Scandinavians believed that demons visited the earth on that night, so they prepared saffron buns to drive them away.
