One day, while playing, Ronia meets a boy and soon becomes friends with him. Unfortunately, it turns out that he is the son of her father’s rival. But the children’s friendship and shared ideas, along with the help of their gnome friends, can reconcile the feuding families.

Ronia and Birk are born on the same stormy night. She is the daughter of Matt, the leader of a band of robbers. He is the son of Bork—Matt’s greatest enemy. Years pass, and after helping each other and even saving each other’s lives, Ronia and Birk become the best of friends. When Ronia’s father finds out, he refuses to accept his daughter’s friendship with the son of his greatest enemy. Ronia and Birk therefore run away from home and decide to make their home in Bear’s Cave. Will they succeed in bringing the two robber bands together?
